Good communication starts with what works for you—not with finding the perfect words. You might prefer a phone conversation, a short written message, pictures or having a trusted person beside you.
The NDIS Commission’s participant guide encourages ongoing, open conversations with workers.[1]
Start with one clear message
Before a conversation, try finishing these sentences:
I find it easier to communicate when…
One thing that is working well is…
One thing I would like to change is…
You can read from a note or ask someone to help explain your point. There is no need to cover everything in one meeting.
Agree on the next step
After discussing a question, ask who will follow it up and when you should check back. A brief written summary can help you spot a misunderstanding. Ask for an explanation again if an answer is unclear.
For routine enquiries to Raya, share your preferred contact method and the general topic you want to discuss. Avoid putting sensitive health or plan information in an initial website enquiry; ask how to share it appropriately.
